Rod angle determinations

Now that you know how to determine if a rod is bent or not, let’s talk about how to determine the angle of a rod. If you have determined that your fishing rod is straight, or almost straight, then you can find the angle of the rod by casting it and observing the way it returns to position.
Casting a fishing rod is not easy to do unless you are experienced. The best way to cast a fishing rod is by using another fishing rod to do so.
You can also use a level line meter to see if it is straight or not by placing it on the top of the handle and then casting it. If it returns to position normally, then the angle of the rod is okay!
If it does not look normal when casting it, then take your fisher and push it down slightly until it looks normal.
Rod lengths and bearing spacing

When choosing your rod length and bearing spacing, remember that the longer the rod, the slower the reaction time. This is because there is more length for the fish to pull the rod out of your hands!
Likewise, narrower bearing spacing makes for quicker reaction time because it reduces the amount of pole needed to shift from one direction to another.
If you are looking for a slow action rod, then buy a longer rod with wider spacing between bearings. If you want a quick action rod, then buy a shorter one with narrower spacing. Easy enough!
Some high-end rods offer what are called continuous tubes instead of individual rods. These are more sturdy and offer better performance than traditional single-piece rods.
Calculate the minimum length of the rod

The next step is to calculate the minimum length of the rod. This is done by taking the diameter of the rod and dividing it by two. Then, add about one inch to this number to make sure that it will fit into the base of the fishing reel.
For example, if you have a one inch diameter rod, then the minimum length of the rod would be one inch divided by two, plus one inch, which would be two inches.
This is important to know because if you buy a very thin rod, it may not hold up unless it is very long. Thicker rods can sometimes be as short as two inches, so make sure to check that out!

Calculate the maximum angle of the rod

Place the rod at an angle less than 45 degrees

When you hold a ruler vertically, the bottom edge makes a 90-degree angle with the floor. This is called a vertical position.
If you place a ruler in this position on a table, it will stand straight up and down. If you place a ruler in this position on a table and push it sideways, it will fall over.
