Even as children we all counted down the days, weeks, months, and years until school was over. We’re never truly finished learning, which is part of the joy of being human. Thus, we compiled a list of five ways to keep learning because life never quits teaching us new things.

But before we dive into the list, let’s answer the important question of “Why should we never stop learning?”

Why should we never stop learning?

Training isn’t an activity that instructors should maintain in a classroom. Sometimes I think this society places so much emphasis on “education” but fails to consider how true learning occurs every day.

I taught for fifteen years as a high school teacher. While teaching as a profession is certainly admirable and important, it is important to recognize that learning does not only occur at school. What if we were to live just as well as we did when we were 18 years old until the age of 35 or 50? Yikes!

We must always be ready to change our circumstances according to the situation as a result that’s how life never stops teaching us. We must respond to changes in our surroundings. How we act is in our control, so we must never stop learning new methods.

5 Fantastic ways to never stop learning

Some of the skills we acquire over time are not choices we make. Economic conditions change, relationships evolve, and the job market shifts. But the good news is that we can be deliberate about learning.

These five key tricks can help never stop learning because life never stops teaching you, so you should definitely make good use of them!

1. Read continuously

What are the most important skills children develop at an early age? Besides listening and speaking, reading skills are key to success. Throughout their lives, reading remains an effective way of learning new things.

If you hear the word “fiction” and you think fluff, leisure, or insignificant, think again. Reading fiction is a great way to learn essential life skills (which are difficult to do in a classroom).

Studies show that reading literature improves empathy.

The Harvard Business Review reports that fiction reading can improve empathy. Essentially, reading fictional situations enables you to imagine yourself in someone else’s shoes. You might also not always agree with the characters in a novel, but you can learn to see them from their perspective.

Fiction can also help you express your creativity in unique ways that cannot be achieved through nonfiction. You can read fifty books on entrepreneurship and starting a side hustle, but a novel about it can bring the concept to life in a more profound way.

Just as fiction has its place in the world, nonfiction reading is the best way to acquire new perspectives. We never stop learning and nonfiction reading resources are great educational tools.

Personal finance is a topicI very much enjoy. I never stop thinking about personal finance because I am constantly being educated. The optimal financial situation can change over the course of time, and the investment advice I adhere to might not work for you. These financial literacy books and these finance books written by Black women are helping me learn something exciting.

One of the many great things about reading is that there are a multitude of ways to gather information. I mean, I am a fan of those old-fashioned books that use real paper, but other formats are equally great.

Audiobooks make it a lot easier to read than regular books, and they are even a great tool for those who lead busy lives. It is practically impossible to overlook a new fact or story while listening to an audiobook, so you will never be bored. If you need to do so, you can even multitask while the audio is playing and skip over words you are not interested in.

Don’t forget about reading other things besides books. You can sign up to get educational newsletters by email, read informative blogs, and get your info from magazines and newspapers, either in print or online. You can build your expertise in any subject that interests you, whether it’s investing, cooking, home improvement, or anything else.

2. Utilize audio resources

Of course, we touched on this a little bit in the reading section because many books are available in audio formats these days. But there are many other listening-focused learning resources to help you never stop learning. Podcasts and radio programs as well as videos are great ways to learn new information.

While it is also true that I also enjoy a good book in my free time, I have found podcasts to be especially enjoyable when you consider that it is so easy to learn about them. You can listen to individuals read and speak about books in their areas of expertise.

Of course, we cannot mention podcasts without mentioning podcasts on financial literacy such as Clever Girls Know, So Money with Farnoosh Torabi, and Brown Ambition. There are countless excellent podcasts by a diverse set of voices, so you can find a podcast on any aspect of personal finance that interests you.

Are you interested in how to start passive real estate investing? Or perhaps you would like to know how to start a money-making blog? Perhaps you want to learn about the differences between term life insurance and whole life insurance. Podcasts cover a wide range of topics, enabling you to learn for years to come.

Or are you more a visually and auditory learner? If so, videos are a great method for learning and acquiring new skills. We experimented during the coronavirus pandemic when my children were doing virtual school and found YouTube and other video sources to be invaluable.

Maybe you don’t want to watch haul videos or other content that might persuade you to buy unnecessary items. But you should definitely consider all of the available information. You can continue to use video lectures that you find online and free downloads to teach yourself.

Are you interested in personal finance (check out the Clever Girl Finance YouTube channel), woodworking, gardening, entrepreneurship, history, or any other subjects? Look for great videos in your library or online.

3. Experience new things

“Experience is a harsh teacher. She administers the test first and the lessons after that.” This quote by Vernon Sanders Law so aptly describes reality, doesn’t it? Many of our most challenging lessons must be learned through experience rather than being taught in any other way.

Think about how children learn. I bet if you look back, you’ll recall a lesson your parents or teachers tried to teach you.

But you didn’t really learn until you gained practical experience and either passed or failed. While we might remember some of the lessons we hear, we learn far more from experience than from lectures.

We never stop learning, as life never stops teaching us through our experiences. Every event in your life has a part in your present and your future.

One easy way to never stop learning is to have a small change in your daily routine. You could try taking a different route to work or eating with your non-dominant hand once a week.

Perhaps you normally drink four cups of coffee every morning. You could try swapping that for tea for a change.

My favorite part of changing my routines is realizing that it forces me to look at things from a new perspective. Although creating great daily routines is crucial for many people’s success, it doesn’t mean you have to be inflexible at times.

What comes to mind first are habits and routines you want to break. For example, if you are often “doomscrolling” after dinner for about an hour before bed, you can start leaving your phone in another room and not answering calls. Give it a shot for a few more days and see how you feel. Taking a social media detox might have the same effect.

The goal is to find something you take for granted or assume you must do, and just attempt to do something different. You may spark new ideas, give up a bad habit, or gain a new perspective on something you already had.

As the world gradually returns to pre-pandemic conditions, you may find in-person conferences are in full swing once again. Even if you’re unable to attend in person, many online conferences offer excellent educational content.

Getting involved with conferences can help one develop new skills, discover new technologies or trends, and foster social skills by playing fun games. I love going to conferences; I get away from my home and comfort zones, meet people with similar interests to me, and get to experience exciting new things.

A great alternative to conferences is to enroll in classes near you (or online). You can take class topics that range from a single session to those that last a few weeks or longer.

If you need professional development or you simply need to relax at a pottery class, you are surely still learning.

As is the case with conferences and classes, you should adopt a learner’s frame of mind so that you’ll never stop learning.

There is something wonderful about becoming a novice at something, whether it’s chess or surfing or studying the stock market. You don’t have to worry about making mistakes, and your mind is free to be filled with new information.

Vanderbilt’s daughter inspired him to rekindle an interest in learning after learning about the joys and transformative power of lifelong learning. Instead of attempting to become an expert in something through 10,000 hours of practice, he wanted to simply learn new activities.

As adults, we lose our ability to just have fun.

Although it may feel arduous, you never stop learning because life never stops teaching through failure.

Brown has commented on the strength of failure in helping us to learn. If we think that we will make mistakes, we will avoid trying new things and achieving new accomplishments.

I think it’s great that kids can fail sometimes because they’re actually learning from their setbacks. Failure can be an essential component of success since it helps develop expertise in future endeavors and shows other people how to proceed.

Maybe it’s best to accept modest shortcomings of which you are not ashamed. Examples include allowing your children to make mistakes with money. Maybe they’ve spent their entire budget, and see something they want to buy.

Instead of rewarding them for not doing or saving something, don’t pay your children for not planning or saving. Letting them be upset over a matter that costs $5 or $10 when they’re young might teach the valuable lesson that it is important to devote oneself to tasks that are worthwhile later in life.

Life Never Stops Teaching
Life Never Stops Teaching

You can accomplish your own goals by abandoning the misguided belief that you must be excellent at everything on the first try. You’re not necessarily supposed to be great at first, and you should not let yourself get discouraged if you aren’t. Never stop learning by making mistakes and making mistakes.

4. Learn through relationships

Along with books and educational materials, the people you surround yourself with are great teachers. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you agree with everyone you meet, but that everyone has something to teach you.

Some friendships exist to teach you how to be patient, while others provide unconditional love. You may befriend friends who inspire you to be more spontaneous or more organized or financially stable. We never stop learning from the people around us.

If you do not want your life to be dull and meaningless, be sure to get involved and join interest groups. You could already have lots of acquaintances and friends and have no trouble finding something new to do. However, if you’d like to try something different, joining a group might be fun.

One of the best ways I’ve connected with new friends is by finding people with similar interests. When I moved to a new state, I searched for running and yoga classes in my area. I use social media to connect with these organizations, leading to the discovery of fun group activities where I could meet locals.

These groups allow you to select what you’re interested in, and you can choose to switch groups whenever you want. Check out magazines and online listings, or search online and see if there’s a group that interests you. You don’t have to commit to the group forever. You can also use this opportunity to meet new people while learning a new skill.

Discussing shared interests with people from all over the world can help you learn a lot about other cultures. Whether you learn from differences or you share your own, you should never stop learning.

One of the difficult aspects of social media is that it is easy to tune out voices that conflict with our own. We can “unfollow” or “silence” people or groups that hold opposing views. I confess to it-I’ve done that a few times, too.

Sometimes, people let you down. It’s just inevitable, right? But it’s important to have at least one or two friends who challenge you in ways that other people do not. They can make you think through your beliefs so that you don’t just exist in an echo chamber where everyone looks and acts the same.

If you’re working toward paying off debt, that doesn’t mean you need to cut off your spending completely from your friends. It is important that they know how you are handling your financial situation. That’s where setting financial limits is essential.

Even if you’re not best friends with your total opposite, you may be able to learn something from her. Don’t be afraid of a little disagreement.

While talking to a friend online or in a Zoom call isn’t quite the same as in person, these relationships are valuable through the power of technology. Thanks to communication tools such as Skype and Google Hangouts, it’s possible to connect with individuals all over the world.

Although it’s great the world is opening up to more events, some friendships may merely be in person at times. If you have friends or family living across the country or overseas, use technology to build closer connections.

How wonderful is it that you can also join a book club with others from anywhere in the world? Or could you learn about personal finance through online courses? These virtual relationships can help you continue learning because there are few limits to what you can do.

5. Improve your personal finances

To be successful and prosperous, you never finish obtaining a financial education. Just as your relationships and your career may change, your financial situation will change your whole life as well.

Plus did you know you can get paid to read and earn extra income to put toward your financial goals?

When it comes to finances, it’s important to never stop learning because life never stops teaching. Why is flexibility so important? Your financial picture is always changing.

Think about it. My son tells me that a couple of dollars seem like a fortune when you’re seven years old. By high school, you might be earning hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month. That quantity increases as you age.

Your view of money, what it is worth, and how hard (or easy) it is to maintain these changes over time are important factors affecting your financial planning. So be sure to adjust your financial strategies based on your current circumstances.

You’ll be offered differing options for money depending on your status as a student, single mother, or middle-aged worker. The options available will change as you enter retirement.

One of the great things about being a student is always having sympathy for others. Perhaps you have paid off a mountain of debt. That’s great! You can enthuse-and even sometimes go out and instruct others how to do it.

The more I learn about finance, the more I realize that it is a personal thing, and no two individuals are exactly alike in this regard. I can assume some of what others are encountering in terms of financial problems, but I do not have the ability to walk in their shoes.

As you learn more, don’t be afraid to share what you know with others. Let personal finance be a regular topic of conversation rather than forbidden territory.

When we open our wallet to friends and family members about finances, including our difficulties and our victories, we all gain.

Remember to never stop learning because life never stops teaching!

Because the way things work is always changing, it is important that we never stop learning about every aspect of our lives, including our finances.

There is a new target to achieve after you succeed in reaching a previous one. So never stop studying or life will never cease providing you with new information and insights.
